Frequently Asked Questions

  • When do you offer classes?

    Classes are taught on Saturdays and start promptly at 8:00am!  Please arrive at 7:45 for Registration and Safety Check!


  • How much do your classes cost?

    Concealed Carry Class is $100, Intermediate Class is $100, and renewal classes are $50.

  • Where are your Concealed Carry Classes located?

    Classroom instruction is located at 2505 S. Vienna Street in the New VFW Hall.  This is a shared building with Ruston Parks and Recreation.  The range portion location will be given to you when you sign up for the class.

  • Where is the Intermediate Class taught?

    The Intermediate Class is taught on a Private Range.  When you sign up for the class, Safe Shooting will email you with directions on how to get there!

  • What time do Concealed Carry Renewal Classes start?

    Renewal Classes start at noon!

  • I have never fired a gun before but I want to protect myself, is this class for me?

    Yes!  This class is designed for the person who has never fired a gun before.  All of the handgun basics are covered!  Shooting is taught step by step in a safe manner!  Many persons that have never fired a handgun before have attended and are grinning ear-to-ear at the end of the day!

  • I do not own a handgun, can I still attend the class?

     Yes!  You may borrow one from a friend or relative or we have several handguns that can be loaned for the class.  First come, first serve!

  • I have a son/daughter under 21, can they attend the class?

    Yes!  Anyone 18 years and older may attend.  No one under 18 years old may attend the Concealed Carry Class.  However, due to the content of the class and videos shown, parents must use caution to make sure that their teenager is mentally and emotionally ready to view and learn the material presented.  Other classes are available for those under 18.

  • What type of handgun can I bring to the class?

     Most handguns are allowed for the class.  Please do not bring any pocket pistols (derringers, etc.). It is difficult to learn the basics with these guns.

  • I am or maybe pregnant, can I still attend the class?

    NO!  There have been numerous studies in regards to lead exposure and pressure created from the firing of firearms and it has been determined that this is very harmful to a fetus!  Please schedule a class after your child is born.

  • Do I have to get a concealed carry permit if I take the class?

    No!  There are no requirements that you have to get a permit.  Several persons have just taken the class for the knowledge and training.

  • I have already attended and want to attend with another family member, will I be charged again to attend?

    No!  You may attend another class with a family member at no charge.  You will not receive a certificate of training the 2nd time, and you can’t use it to renew your concealed carry permit.  That will require a refresher course to renew your permit.

  • How long is the class certificate valid?

    You have one year from the date of your class to turn in your application to the State Police for your concealed carry permit.  If you have not submitted your application within 1 year, you will be required to retake the class at full cost to obtain your permit.



  • Do you offer gift certificates?

    Yes!  We offer Gift Certificates year around for you to give to your family, friends and co-workers!.
